"i'm so sorry but i love you, it's all lies"

the korean boy band hip hop phenomenon.
i theenk is some strangey.

all my students freaking LOVE big bang.
the girls think they're hot
and the boys think they're cool.

rock is out, hip hop is in.

m-k said only old people like rock now.
women who like rock are NOT HOTTIES and almost always old.
hmmm, maybe old as in like 40-something!? *COUGH*
this anti-rock statement sparked some debate.
haha.

i still don't understand.
i hope he was thinking rock like creed or evanescence, not rock like vampire weekend or CSS.

is rock really dead!?!?!
was it ever even alive here?
does m-k know what he's talking about at all!?

ROCK WILL NEVER DIE!! But then again, what do I know. I'm an old non-hottie.

Rock won't die. Radiohead is still the top band in the world. Korean trends are lived-hard and die-fast.

Perhaps they're confusing "rock" with Korean heavy metal that was popular in the late 90's early 2000's.

At least what I classify under the genre of "Rock" music is just so much stuff. Like, that's a broader genre than pop music to me. Well, I think the whole "best band in the world" competition is kind of silly, but none of the three most a-ok bands of today for me even play guitars any more (Animal Collective, Boredoms, The Tough Alliance), but I still couldn't classify them as anything but rock music. I guess the defining point of "rock" for me is intention, spirit, and sound on some level. Popularity of styles definitely sways and goes, but I don't think the things that make rock music for me are ever really gonna go that far outta style.

But I saw one of the best concerts I've ever seen last week, and it totally reminded me why everyone should give a shit about music. It was the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise tour, and it was just like watching all your friends interact or something. Everyone was so joyous, and everyone played on everyone's songs, and it sounded just really really good, and there were presents, and they played some of my favorite songs ever (which i never thought i'd hear in person), and they were just playing for the fun and joy of making cool music to play for their friends or whoever else would listen. I could go on for a while about it, and how refreshing it is that they weren't dressed ironically or in tight pants or something the Byrds would have worn (ahem, MagicTwigCommunity), but just baggy stuff that probably kept them very warm from 1995 onward. But that's rock and roll! The best side of it! Music made for the good things in life.
